The Defence Section organises this commemoration to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

It is an official occasion used to honour the Nigerian Army’s history, remember fallen heroes, and celebrate the contributions of active service members to national security. The date traces the history of the Nigerian Army back to the creation of the "Glover Hausas" in 1863. As of July 2026, the Nigerian Army has marked 163 years of dedicated service. The day also pays tribute to soldiers who fought in World War I, World War II, the Nigerian Civil War, and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Marking the official anniversary of the Nigerian Navy’s establishment. It is used to showcase the Nigerian Navy maritime security achievements, commission new warships, and honor naval personnel. The Nigerian Navy was originally established on 1 June 1956, as the Nigerian Naval Force. It began with just 250 personnel and 11 inherited colonial vessels. Today, it stands as one of the most powerful maritime forces in Africa. In June 2026, the Nigerian Navy celebrated its historic 70th anniversary.

Marking the anniversary of the service's formal establishment. The Nigerian Air Force was officially founded on 18 April 1964, under the Air Force Act of the Nigerian Parliament. Originally formed with a small technical staff and basic aircraft, it has evolved into a highly tactical force deploying modern fighter jets, combat helicopters, and advanced surveillance drones. As of 2026, the Nigerian Air Force has completed 62 years of securing the nation's airspace.
